Dr Michael H Vickers (m)

MB ChB (Bristol 1987) DipRCPath

Dr Mike Vickers joined the practice in April 1999. He grew up in Knutsford and graduated from University of Bristol in 1987. After a variety of hospital posts, including several years training in clinical microbiology, he switched to General Practice, completing his training in Burton on Trent. His wife, Rachel is a consultant anaesthetist at Queen's Hospital, Burton and they have two daughters, Charlotte and Lucy. Outside of the practice, he is Chairman of the South Derbyshire Dales Practice Based Commissioning group and also works part-time for Derbyshire County PCT.

Dr Sarah J Smith (f)

MB ChB (Leicester 1994) DRCOG MRCGP DCH DFFP

Dr Sarah Smith was born in London before moving to Northamptonshire at the age of 7. She graduated from Leicester University in 1994. After initial training in Paediatrics she switched to General Practice and completed her training in South Yorkshire in 1999. She joined the practice in 2000 after moving to Derby with her husband who is a local Dentist. Her medical interests include paediatrics and respiratory disease. Outside of the practice she is busily entertained by her 3 sons, James, Sam and Rory.

Dr Jonathan A Marsden (m)

MBChB (Sheffield 2005) MRCGP

Dr Jonathan Marsden was born and raised in Oldham, Lancashire. He always wanted to be a GP and graduated from University of Sheffield Medical School in June 2005. After house jobs in Sheffield, he joined onto the Chesterfield Vocational Training scheme and there completed his GP training in August 2010. His medical interests include ear, nose & throat medicine. His wife, Rachel is a senior physiotherapist and they live with their two young son's Matthew and Christopher. Outside of the practice, he enjoys playing cricket and going for walks.

Dr Sidney Murray Wilson (m)

MB BCh (Belfast 1998), MRCGP, MRCP

Dr Murray Wilson grew up in Belfast. He initially graduated with a degree in Physics and then a PhD in Atomic Physics before undertaking his medical degree, all at Belfast Queens University. After graduating he moved to Sheffield to take up a post in Medical Microbiology before moving to Derby where he worked in both the DRI and Derby City Hospitals. He obtained his MRCP qualification in 2006 and returned to Sheffield where he was a registrar in Genitourinary Medicine, a post involving the general medical care of a group of HIV Positive patients. This experience prompted him to transfer to the world of General Practice, a change he has never regretted. A return to Derby followed, working as a Partner in Mickleover Medical Centre punctuated by a spell in Belfast caring for his elderly parents. A return to Derbyshire was always on the cards and he joined the Practice in January 2017. In his free time he is a book club member, enjoys playing and listening to music and running. He has previously completed the Derby 10k Run and Etwall Triathlon. Time and age permitting he hopes to participate in future events.

Dr Julie Carson (f)

BSc PhD BMBS (Nottingham 2007) MRCGP

Dr Julie Carson was born in Derby. She initially studied Biochemistry and Physiology at the University of Leeds graduating in 1999. She then completed her PhD in Leeds before changing to study medicine at the Graduate Entry Medical School in Derby. She completed her medical training in 2007. Her medical interests include mental health, health care of the elderly and dementia. She is married to James, who is a paediatrician. They have four young children, Joseph, Oliver and the twins Jessica and Emily who keep them very busy! In her spare time she is a keen netballer and plays several times a week.

Dr Sue Ruddle (f)

MBBS (Guy’s) 1985, DRCOG, FPC

Dr Sue Ruddle is married with 2 grown-up children and has lived in the area almost all of her life.  She graduated from Guys Hospital Medical School in 1985.  Sue devoted most of her time to bringing up her children after house jobs and trained as a GP in 1996.  Prior to this she worked in sexual health and gynaecology.  She continues her interest in the latter as a hospital practitioner in a community gynaecology clinic.  Sue has returned to the practice having taken a break from general practice and now works very part time as a salaried doctor.
